" We are also viewing lectures on DVDs — "The New Testament " by Professor Bart Ehrman of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and "Great Figures of the New Testament " by Professor Amy-Jill Levine of the Vanderbilt University Divinity School. These lectures chiefly address historical aspects of the subject.

Weekend of Oct. 4 and 5th. The Rev. Stephen Sterner, executive minister of Local Church Ministries of the National Setting of the United Church of Christ will be visiting our church. On Saturday, October 4 10-1:30 Rev. Sterner will hold a conversation with us and the United Churches of Christ of Sonoma County on the future of the church as we journey into the 21st Century. This will be an interesting meeting touching on the challenges facing us as we grow into a new era of being the church. On Sunday October the 5th he will be visiting with our church at our annual community picnic. This visit is important for our church as we discern and live into tomorrow.

Sunday October 5th: Community Picnic: This year the Samoan congregation and our congregation will hold a picnic for ourselves and our neighbors. Special guest Stephen Sterner, the Director of Local Church Ministries will be visiting us that weekend. The Outreach Board will sponsor a Mission Fair with a “Tent of Hope.” Worship is at 10:30 with picnic and fair to follow.

Tuesdays 12:30pm: Prayer Group: People gather for an hour of prayer, spending time in quiet and spoken prayer. If you have a prayer request, joy or concern, call Carmen and she will forward it to the prayer group.

Wednesdays 10am: Bible Study-The Long Way Home: Our Wednesday morning Bible Study will explore the book of Exodus as we contemplate the Spiritual Path. Come embrace spiritual transformation, the journey home to God.

Wednesdays 7:00 pm: Beyond Belief-Meditation and Spiritual Enrichment: The lived spiritual life is an exploration and a discovery. It is an experience of God’s eternal and unconditional Love. Believing can sometimes get in the way of spiritual experience. To move beyond belief is to invite the Holy One into our lives, experiencing the vitality and vibrancy of God in our everyday lives. To move “beyond belief” is to dive deeper, to surface in our very lives. On Wednesday evenings through prayer and meditation we dare to take the plunge and dive in, “beyond belief.“
