Musings Along Lifes Way: *Possessed!*
Have you ever been possessed?
By an idea?
By a thought that would not go away?
By the Archies, the bubblegum group from the 70's and their addicting, obnoxious song, "Sugar," which included those unfortunate, unforgettable lyrics, /"//Sugar, ah honey honey You are my candy girl And you've got me wanting you." /
Possession is not something that requires demons and that can only be cured by a scary older priest from the movie, "The Exorcist." Possession is something that we can encounter in every day of our lives -- from the thoughts that will not go away to the compulsions that often motivate us, making us wonder to ourselves how we could have done such a thing. Indeed, the reality of possession is that it is a run of the mill every day experience, common to us all. What do we do when we feel possessed? Let's think about *that* this coming Sunday. Using *Luke 8:26-39, *the story of Jesus and the Gerasene demoniac, we will reflect on the whole notion of possession, from the extreme to the mundane and how it relates to the freedom we experience in walking God's way -- a life filled with compassion, love and grace. I look forward to seeing you in church.
Remember: If you have big plans for any Sunday this summer, you can still come to church! Our 8:30 am service is tailor made for you. You come to church at 8:30, leave by 9:20 and you still have a whole Sunday ahead of you for summer fun -- the beach, picnics and family gatherings.
See you in church.
Blessings,
David
